A Tanka for dinner

Peeling layers of
the crumbling papery sheaths
Cut segments fuming
in a pungent mandala,
provoking eyes to water.

I was preparing dinner the other day when I became mesmerized by the natural symmetry of an onion which reminded me of a mandala however, not one to gaze at for long before my eyes started watering! :)
